About the Designer and the Design firm
Although Principal Interior Designer Melissa Tossell came from a family background in traditional carpentry and the trades (and an odd parentage combination of Tupperware Lady and US Marine), she didn't discover Interior Design until she first stepped foot onto the acclaimed campus of the International Academy of Design and Technology in Toronto in 2006. She was enthralled by the breadth of work involved in a typical design project and the beautiful results that come from talent combined with an enthusiastic education. She retains the same passion for Interior Design that she did on that very first day, but like a good marriage over the years her love for design has only deepened and grown many new facets.
While Sanura Design is new to the Interior Design community, Melissa has pride in the variety of experiences that her clientele benefit from. From Kitchen design to a Residential Design Firm to a Luxury Condo Developer her experiences have rounded out the knowledge and instincts behind her passion for design. She has a thirst for knowledge and is constantly educating herself via seminars, suppliers and the internet to keep herself up-to-date and savvy on the latest technologies, newest trends, and the latest and greatest international design.
What on earth does this all have to do with you? Everything. At the heart of her design philosophy is the passion to use it all- passion for the psychology of design, passion for all things sustainable, inspiration from the latest and greatest, modern technology, common sense, experience, and hard earned knowledge- to take your everyday life to the next level. This means tapping into what makes you happy and excited to get out of bed, and helping you truly turn your house into a home!
Today Sanura Design has an extensive network of colleagues, trades, suppliers, and professionals that support every project and ensure your dreams are designed intelligently, made with quality, and that the entire process keeps your sense of humor intact.
Our "Green" Story
Melissa has always cared about her impact on the environment and thanks her family for leading by example- from recycling before it was cool (oh the days when recycling Aluminum Cans was profitable), buying items to last, and conserving water, to gathering and hunting their own food (mmm Fresh Wild Blackberries). As she matured and left her home, her passion grew and her influence over what she could do about this grew as well. She's passionate about buying, making, and designing locally- from her food and her clothes to Sanura Design's suppliers and trades. Being "Green" or Sustainable is about caring enough to do what you can, when you can. It doesn't have a price tag or a specific lifestyle, and as Principal Interior Designer of Sanura Design, Melissa's mission is to show everyone how easy and affordable being Green is when you have the right guide. We know from experience that it saves you money (hello energy efficiency), lasts you longer (yep, buying quality over quantity is a key Green ideal), supports your local economy (how about supporting your neighbor over a strange company in China?), and improves the health and happiness of you and your family.
